How to Set Up an Online Booking System for Your Malaysian Business

Most Malaysian small businesses still take bookings on WhatsApp. Here's how to upgrade to a proper system in under 10 minutes โ€” for free.

Why Malaysian businesses need online booking

If you run a salon, clinic, tuition centre, or any appointment-based business in Malaysia, you probably spend hours every week on WhatsApp โ€” taking bookings, confirming times, chasing payments, and dealing with last-minute cancellations.

It works when you have 5 customers. When you have 50, it's chaos.

An online booking system solves this by letting customers pick their own slot โ€” 24/7, even while you sleep. No back-and-forth messages, no double bookings, no forgotten appointments.

What to look for in a booking system for Malaysia

Not every booking system is built for Malaysian businesses. Here's what matters:

  • Works on mobile โ€” most Malaysian customers book on their phones
  • No app download required โ€” customers shouldn't need to install anything
  • WhatsApp-friendly โ€” easy to share via WhatsApp link
  • Supports RM pricing โ€” not just USD
  • Sends reminders automatically โ€” to cut no-shows
  • Free or affordable โ€” many booking tools are expensive SaaS products built for the US market

Step-by-step: Setting up your booking page

1

Create your free account

Sign up at BookingLah with your email. No credit card needed. Takes 30 seconds.

2

Add your services

Go to Dashboard โ†’ Services. Add each service you offer with its name, duration, and price in RM. Example: 'Haircut & Blowdry โ€” 60 min โ€” RM 80'.

3

Set your working hours

Go to Availability. Set which days you work and your opening/closing times. You can also block out specific dates for holidays.

4

Customise your booking page

Add your business name, logo, and a short description. Your page goes live at mybookinglah.com/your-business-name.

5

Share your link

Copy your booking link and share it on WhatsApp, Instagram bio, Google Business Profile, and anywhere you communicate with customers.

Where to share your booking link

Once your booking page is live, you need to put the link where customers will find it:

  • WhatsApp status โ€” pin your booking link so contacts can tap it directly
  • Instagram bio โ€” replace your phone number with your booking link
  • Google Business Profile โ€” add it as your booking URL so people searching for you can book immediately
  • Facebook page โ€” add a "Book Now" button linking to your page
  • Your WhatsApp greeting message โ€” "Hi! To book an appointment, tap here: [link]"

What happens after a customer books

Here's the full flow once your system is running:

  1. Customer visits your booking page, picks a service and time slot
  2. They enter their name, phone number, and email
  3. They submit โ€” booking is immediately created as "Pending"
  4. You confirm it from your dashboard (or set it to auto-confirm)
  5. Customer receives a confirmation email with a cancel link
  6. Automatic reminder emails go out 24 hours before the appointment
  7. You mark the booking as Completed after the appointment

Common questions from Malaysian business owners

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. Your booking page is a regular website. Customers visit the URL, pick a slot, and submit. Works on any phone or computer.

What if I want to block a day off for a holiday?

Go to Availability โ†’ Block Date and select the date. No bookings can be made for that day.

Can I take walk-in bookings too?

Yes. You can add bookings manually from your dashboard at any time. The system tracks both online and manually-added bookings.

Is it really free?

The free plan is free forever for up to 20 bookings per month. Most new businesses start here and upgrade as they grow.
